Trump impeachment trial vote – The impeachment trial of ex-president Donald Trump has finally come to an end and the verdict is NOT GUILTY!
In his second impeachment trial on Saturday, the senate acquitted former President Donald Trump, with this vote, Trump has been found not guilty of inciting the notorious January 6 riot at the US Capitol. However, the verdict amounted to a bipartisan rebuke of the former President with seven Republicans voting he was guilty.

In the final tally, 57 senators voted guilty to convict which is 10 votes short of the required 67 votes needed to convict him. This is also a huge surprise to many especially because during the previous trial, only Mitt Romney of Utah was the republican senator who voted to convict Trump.
This time a record 7 republican senators including; Sens. Richard Burr of North Carolina, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowksi of Alaska, Romney, Ben Sasse of Nebraska and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania voted to convict Trump on Saturday.
Trumps defense tactics
In a brief presentation on Friday, the Trump defense team offered its rebuttal, they sought to equate Trump’s rhetoric prior to the January 6th incident with that of Democrats. Their argument is that political rhetoric is protected by the First Amendment and Trump’s language did not incite a riot that was pre-planned.
GOP senators’ tactics for the trial was to focus on constitutional argument
Earlier in the week, the senate had voted 56-44 the impeachment trial was constitutional, this outcome pretty much preempted what we saw on Saturday with the final votes. The reality was the even with additional evidence, the Democrats would not get the necessary votes to convict Trump.
